Why I Designed the PopOut Collapsible Dough Container
Hey pizza fiends. Let's talk about the ugly side of making high hydration pizza that nobody shows on Instagram: dough that just refuses to leave the container smoothly.
When I first launched the classic KEVJES silicone dough containers on Amazon, the feedback from experienced bakers was exactly what I had hoped for. But as I read through the reviews and comments, I started noticing a clear pattern among beginners.
If you are new to making 70% hydration dough, shaping a perfectly tight dough ball is actually really hard. If you do not seal the bottom of the dough properly when you shape it, the ball loses its structure during the cold ferment. Instead of a tight, round dome, it flattens out into a sticky puddle. When that happens in a standard rigid container, it becomes a total nightmare to get out. You end up digging at it, stretching the gluten, and destroying all those precious air bubbles you spent 48 hours building.
I spent months thinking about how to fix this for people who are still mastering their dough shaping. I wanted a container that essentially does the releasing work for you. That is how the new KEVJES PopOut series was born.
If you are deciding whether the folding design fits your routine, compare KEVJES PopOut and Classic dough proofing containers side by side.
The Press-and-Release Method
Instead of trying to pull a sticky dough out of a deep box, I made this new version fully collapsible.
When you are ready to stretch your dough, you just flip the container upside down over your counter and press the silicone sides flat. The container literally steps out of the way. Because it collapses flat, the dough drops right out effortlessly, keeping your delicate air pockets completely undisturbed.
The Honeycomb Base
To make the release even smoother, I totally redesigned the bottom interior.
If you look closely at the inside base of the PopOut container, you will see a slightly raised honeycomb texture. This was not just for looks. This tiny physical adjustment reduces the total surface contact between the wet, sticky dough and the silicone. It acts like a built-in release layer, giving the bottom of your poorly sealed dough balls less surface area to grab onto.
60% More Cabinet Space
As a massive bonus, this collapsible design fixed my own biggest complaint about home kitchen storage.
Let's be honest, we all have too many pizza peels, scales, and tools taking up cabinet space. When you are done baking and washing up, these new PopOut containers press completely flat. They take up at least 60% less storage space than the classic KEVJES boxes. You can stack an entire set in a shallow drawer and completely forget about them until your next pizza night.

I am genuinely excited for you guys to get your hands on these, especially if you have ever struggled with sticky dough ruining your launch.

🍕 Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Will repeatedly folding the container cause the silicone to crack or wear out?
Not at all. We use a premium, food-grade silicone that is specifically engineered for flexibility and endurance. It is designed to handle thousands of folds without losing any structural integrity. You can collapse and expand your PopOut boxes every single pizza night, and they will stay just as resilient as day one.
Does wet dough get stuck in the honeycomb texture at the bottom?
Actually, the exact opposite happens. The tiny raised dots of the honeycomb pattern are there to break the vacuum suction that usually traps high hydration dough against flat surfaces. When it is time to clean up, there is no stubborn layer of dough glued to the bottom. Just a quick wipe with a sponge and warm soapy water, and the textured base cleans up instantly.
Can I put the PopOut containers in the dishwasher or freezer?
Yes to both. The silicone we use is built to handle extreme kitchen temperature swings. You can cold ferment in the fridge, or freeze your leftover dough balls directly in the sealed boxes. When pizza night is over, just toss the expanded containers right onto the top rack of your dishwasher so the water can reach every corner. Once they are completely dry, that is when you press them flat to slide into your cabinet. They will never warp or hold onto any weird dish soap smells.
